The 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga offers an opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and cultural heritage of Morocco. The itinerary is designed to guide participants from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert dunes of Merzouga, with stops at historic Kasbahs and local villages to provide an immersive exploration of Morocco’s notable sights and experiences.
The 4-day tour will begin in Marrakech, heading towards Merzouga via the Dades Valley and the High Atlas Mountains. There will be occasional stops to take in the scenic views and Berber villages, including the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. This Kasbah has been featured in over 20 international films and is recognized as a significant fort along the ancient Salt Road, where caravans transported commodities such as gold, ivory, salt, and silk to Marrakech and other locations. After passing through Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa for its film industry, the tour will proceed through Skoura and Kalaat M’gouna ( rose town), where visitors can experience the rose valley and various products derived from roses. The journey will continue to Dades Valley, home to several Berber villages, where overnight accommodations will be provided.
After breakfast, the journey continues to the Sahara Desert, passing through Berber villages and the scenic landscapes of Todra Gorges, Tinjdad, and Tinghir. There will be stops for photographs and to observe the views. A visit to Todra Gorges provides an opportunity to walk through the canyon. The next stop is in Erfoud, a town noted for its fossil mining. The trip then proceeds to Merzouga. Upon arrival at the camel area, a camel trek is available to view the sunset before continuing to the luxury camp situated among the sand dunes. The evening includes dinner accompanied by traditional Berber music. The night is spent at the camp.
You will get up early to watch the most spectacular sunrise at the top of one of the dunes near the camp. Then, you will have a warm breakfast in the camp. From there, our journey continues along a route offering views of nomadic settlements, giving us a glimpse into their unique lifestyle and traditions. The next stop will be at a viewpoint to contemplate the Erg Chebbi divide. We will then reach the village of Kamilia, originally from Sudan, where we will have a relaxing cup of tea while listening to a Gnawa spiritual music concert. Transfer to your accommodation, then have a free afternoon to enjoy the dunes next to the hotel and watch the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
On the final day of the 4-day desert tour from Marrakech, an early rise will greet you with the stunning sight of the sun rising over the dunes. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, the journey will lead you once more through the enchanting Draa Valley, where the vibrant town of Rissani awaits. The intricate Moroccan architecture found in palaces, gates, and temples presents a multitude of photographic opportunities. Continuing on this adventure, you will travel through Nkob and Agdz before making your way back to the familiar town of Ouarzazate. A lunch stop at one of the local restaurants will be offered before the return trip through the majestic Atlas Mountains and back to Marrakech, marking the conclusion of our journey. The arrival is expected in Marrakech around 8:00 PM.
